Jennifer Abbott
Hearing Aid Practitioner and Founder
Jennifer is originally from East Vancouver, near the PNE. She graduated with a distinction from Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta in 2008. An active registrant in good standing with the College of Speech and Hearing Professionals of BC, Jennifer is also a certified dementia practitioner and has been enlisted with the International Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners since 2013.
Jennifer acquired more than 25 years of business experience working within various industries, including insurance brokerage, aviation and health, acquiring valuable people skills along the way. Working for award-winning Emirates Airlines and living in Dubai exposed her to a multicultural environment where she honed her skills working with more than 100 nationalities and finding solutions to best serve her customers’ needs.
Upon returning to Canada, Jennifer studied to become a hearing aid practitioner. It didn’t take long before she became aware of an issue that was holding many people back from seeking hearing healthcare – accessibility.
Being unable to travel from their homes to their appointments at the clinic, many clients were foregoing the help they needed. This ultimately meant further hearing issues as a result of not acquiring treatment.
Jennifer’s realization inspired her to establish Hear at Home Mobile Hearing Clinic, the first 100% mobile hearing clinic in the lower mainland. Her mission is simple: to improve her clients’ quality of life at any age.
As owner and mobile hearing practitioner, Jennifer wears many hats. She looks after the main operations of the business and sees clients 5-6 days a week throughout the Greater Vancouver area. Jennifer has in-depth experience with hearing testing and fitting devices, recommending hearing aids and working with older populations suffering from cognitive decline and dementia.
Jennifer is proactive in establishing community connections. She is constantly meeting with different professionals who work with the same clientele as she does.
She is grateful for her team who supports her company and mission and truly appreciates the collaborative environment and working alongside talented individuals who bring diverse perspectives and skills to the table. Jennifer considers the way the team comes together, shares ideas and leverages their collective strengths to achieve goals.
She notes the sense of camaraderie and mutual support within the team creates a positive atmosphere that enhances productivity and makes the work more enjoyable. Everyone’s successes are celebrated, and assistance is offered when needed, fostering a strong sense of unity.
Jennifer finds that being part of such a collaborative and supportive team is truly rewarding and fulfilling. She loves how friendly the staff are and how they are always going out of their way to find a way to help our clients.
Her diverse career has produced many highlights over the years, but one of Jennifer’s favourite moments was when she organized a seniors flash mob in 2015. She describes bringing together 200 seniors, including those with walkers and wheelchairs, for an event that caught the attention of local news stations simply as “awesome. It required a lot of planning, coordination and dedication to make it happen”.
The event created an enjoyable and engaging experience for the seniors involved and raised awareness about the importance of inclusivity and the active participation of older adults in community activities. The fact that it received media coverage further amplified the message and showcased its positive impact on everyone.
Some of Jennifer’s professional achievements include Finalist, Best Concept Award; Small Business BC 2011 Winner; Best of the North Shore; and Readers’ Choice Awards in 2012, 2013, 2018 and 2019.
In her free time, Jennifer likes to travel (and makes a point of getting away at least twice a year!), shopping in local stores, visiting farmers markets, trying new restaurants and meeting friends at a local coffee house.
